Puppies Forever

WE call ourselves the Puppies. Or Seippups. Sort of my homeboyz. It started in 1976. Thirty something years now and still going strong. We were a group of kids - friends from everywhere - who decided to band together for reasons that's well beyond me now. Young kids - that's what we were I guess, kids looking for some identity, or trying to institutionalize and immortalize friendship that the Boholanos - or the Filipinos - are known for (if you haven't heard it before... then now you know!). It was about a future that wasn't carved yet in stone, sort of a foundation - about something - we care about and try to establish but wasn't so clear yet at this early stage of our young lives. We thought it was all about "We came, we saw, we conquer" type of thing - we lived lives as if it was - we had lots of fun, carefree lifestyle and head-ache-causing and probably (?) lots of sleepless nights for our loving and concerned parents. Let me make it clear, we were no bad kids... but we pushed friendship and all that goes with it to the limit. As one of our homies wrote in a song to immortalize our young past, he said, "Our lives were full of hopes and dreams but we didn't really care. The clouds of "non-existence" by then had wrapped our minds and wills." (Reminiscing, 1995)

PUPPIES 30 YEARS AFTER - REY T'S HOUSE BLESSING 2006

While I'm still waiting for more inspiration why don't you all finish looking at the slideshow and listen to a song written in 1995 about ourselves. Here's the lyrics...

(Words and music by J Roel Lungay)

It seems like only yesterday
When I wrote my very first song,
I still remember how I felt
When I struck that very first chord.

I fell in love with the melody
That I still hold today,
The words so full of memories
Of how life used to be.

We've walked through life so slowly
But we've wandered far and free.
We were different and so crazy,
No moments dull and gray.

Remember how we used to sing
And serenade the girls;
We drowned ourselves in booze and beers
Until the break of day.

Our lives were full of hopes and dreams
But we didn't really care;
The clouds of "non-existence"
By then had wrapped our minds and wills.

We've walked through life so slowly
But we've wandered far and free.
We were different and so crazy,
No moments dull and gray.

We traveled life so easy,
We've wandered fancy-free,
Outrageous and so silly,
So different from today...
